Perfect Breadsticks


These breadsticks are absolutely perfect. It takes a lot of restraint for me to not make these as a side dish every week! I especially love how quick and simple they are. They will certainly be a staple in our family for a long time!


Perfect Breadsticks
-Adapted from Kristen H.-

1 1/2 c. warm water
1 Tbs. yeast
2 Tbs. sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 c. butter + 2 Tbs. butter
Parmesan Cheese (not fresh)
Garlic Salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine water, yeast, and sugar. Let yeast proof for 8-10 minutes, or until foamy. Add flour and salt and knead for a few minutes, or until dough is soft and pliable. Let dough stand, covered, for 10 minutes.

Place 1/4 c. butter on large, rimmed baking sheet, and place in oven until melted. Meanwhile, roll out dough until it's 1/8th-1/4th of an inch thick. Using a pizza cutter, cut into strips. Working with one strip at a time, fold in half lengthwise and twist. Set on buttered pan, placing breadsticks very close together. Sprinkle generously with Parmesan cheese and garlic salt. Cover and let rise 20-30 minutes, or until almost double in size.

Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Immediately after removing from oven, brush tops with 2 Tbs. melted butter. Serve immediately.
