Steak with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce

I originally saw this recipe on The Pioneer Woman Cooks. I have made a handful of significant changes, which I think are for the better. This sauce is VERY rich and delicious! It takes delicious steaks to a whole new level....From simple to gourmet. I know that the picture looks far from appetizing, but you'll just have to trust me.

Also, please note that this IS NOT healthy in the least. Think of it as special occasion food. :) I promise, it's worth it!

Steak with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce
adapted from The Pioneer Woman

2-3 good quality steaks
1/4 c. butter
1/2 (large) yellow onion
2 c. sliced white mushrooms (approx.)
3/4 cup cream
1/4 c. crumbled Gorgonzola cheese

Season both sides of steaks with garlic salt, pepper, Lawry's Seasoning salt, and onion powder. Grill.

A few minutes prior to grilling, begin preparing the sauce. Cut onion in half (root to tip) and peel. Slice in 1/4 inch thick slices.

Meanwhile, melt butter in a large saute pan (medium heat). Once melted, saute onions and mushrooms in butter over high heat. Sprinkle with a little kosher salt. Cook for 5-6 minutes, or until browned and caramelized. Reduce heat to a simmer (med-low) and pour in cream. Cook for 3-4 minutes, or until reduced by half.

Stir in blue cheese until melted. Serve steaks with a generous portion of sauce over top.
